How long lives and how much gypsy music worth?
With the lead of Oszkár Ganyi at Abaúj county, Hernádvécse, the traditional gypsy music is still alive. The band was founded four years ago and they’ve five members. On the video, only four members are present, the dulcimer player could not come. As the leader of the band said: if it goes on like this, the couple hundred years old art of gypsy music will die. But some time ago the Hungarians rollicked to this music. Oszkár is a trained musician and his friendship with his instrument can be felt, he plays nice and clean tones. He was happy, that he could show us what his orchestra are capable of. They think, that gypsy music is really important for the next generations, because it’s one thing that not only gypsy people can be proud of, but the whole society, because of the good reputation of Hungarian gypsy music. Sadly, they have not many opportunities to perform. Sometimes at funerals, birthday and name-day events. We’d like to be restaurant musicians, or to play at weddings. Luckily, they still young, and hope, that they’ll be rediscovered. They’d be happy if the youngsters of the next generation would get a liking to play on the violin, dulcimer, viola, or the doublebass. Until then, the orchestra frequently gathers for some jam sessions.
